Heart of the wild classic build10/26/2023 Wild Hearts’ zones are impressively enormous and vertical. Numerous story scenes pepper the overarching narrative, making the plot a more involved affair than Wild Hearts’ contemporaries (though you can skip the scenes if you want to jump right into the action).Īzuma is not a true open-world environment it's a collection of expansive, self-contained zones with unique features and landmarks, similar to the maps in Monster Hunter Rise. You play as a Kemono hunter with a unique power and must assist the city of Minato with exterminating the supernatural beasts. Massive beasts, the Kemono, roam Azuma’s wilderness, radically reshaping the environment and destroying the ecology. The game features a narrative campaign that guides you across the Japan-inspired world of Azuma. This is the essence of the genre, and Wild Hearts nails it. You master weapon abilities, harvest materials from successful kills, craft new gear from said materials, and then start the process all over again against a tougher foe. Like the games that inspired it, Wild Hearts tasks you with hunting a roaming boss across an expansive map. The Monster Hunter series spawned an entire subgenre that offers a satisfying gameplay loop that keeps you chasing new creatures and gear. Although it isn't a Monster Hunter killer, Wild Hearts is a fine alternative that features an impressive degree of polish. Like those titles, the thoroughly Japanese-centric Wild Hearts pits feudal-era hunters against humungous supernatural fauna. This shouldn't be too surprising, considering developer Omega Force also created the monster-hunting Toukiden games for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, and PlayStation Vita. Wild Hearts ($69.99) is an action-RPG feat, deftly implementing the Monster Hunter series' classic core concepts while introducing new and refreshing ideas.
